Grand total of kids who showed up at our door? 8,... EIGHT, just eight kids! I know people who have the numbers close to the hundred mark, we have eight.

William Gibson on OBL

William Gibson: "posted 9:58 AM
After sleeping on it, I find I'm not quite as inclined to imagine that OBL's tape was a conscious effort to swing the election for Bush. It doesn't seem to me that he understands us quite that well, and it doesn't seem to me that I understand him well enough to be that certain of what he's up to. I think the message might actually have been: 'Hi. 9-11 was all my idea. And you haven't been able to catch me, so I'll do it all over again if I decide to. I know you're having an election now, but that won't make any difference either way. In order to make a difference, you'll have to get your government to stop doing the things they're doing that keep me wanting to attack you again. 'Bye.'

It gets harder, the more I think about it, to see that causing many of the remaining pool of undecided US voters to go Bush. I think OBL needed a logo moment, though, in terms of the ongoing validity of his global brand, and look what he's been able to pull off, with virtually no outlay: The world's full attention, as both candidates drop everything to respond.

You know who would've completely gotten OBL? Andy Warhol"

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

New York Daily News - Entertainment Columnists - Jack Mathews::
"Masterpiece? Probably.
Ingenious? Absolutely!
Unforgettable? I'll see you at the 10th-year anniversary."

Oh man I am only half way through it and I am so there!

Mark Seliger

"we're not worthy.... we're not worthy.... we're not worthy...."

Oh how I wish I could be Mark Seliger when I grow up! :-)

Warp Vision

Warp was and still is the shit. Used to be you'd just buy a CD with the Warp lable regardless. They are too big for that now but they still rule.

DrunkenBlog: Christopher Forsythe, of Growl for Mac OS X

DrunkenBlog: Christopher Forsythe, of Growl for Mac OS X:
Christopher Forsythe, of Growl for Mac OS X
Growl is open source, with two parts: The Growl app, which the user downloads and installs and runs in the background and controls via the System Preferences, and the code a 3rd party app builds in to give it Growl support. You can also send messages through it yourself via the CLI, AppleScript, etc.
Part of the problem with describing Growl is that it's like RSS: if you read enough on the web, and are willing to adjust how you do it slightly, you'll get a massive productivity boost. If someone only reads a few websites, it's easy to wonder what all the fuss is about.
And if you use your computer for less than four hours in a day, very soon you might be wondering what all the fuss is around Growl. Growl isn't huge yet, but it will be, as like RSS it allows you to shape how information is funneled to you, but for the simplest of things: alerts and notifications.
One of the problems with a multi-tasking, internet-connected operating system is that you're bombarded with information, but then have to physically do things in order to get what you really want. And like death from a thousand cuts it slows you way down.
iChat is an especially egregious example of this: when you get a new message, iChat throws up a little bubble letting you know you have a new message and from whom. This is good, as there are times when you don't want to stop what you're doing to chat with a random person. But iChat, in it's own passive-aggressive way, insists that you deal with it, because that bubble doesn't go away. It just stays there, taunting, only a slight step above the usual horrid bouncing dock icons.

Ecto

trying out a program called Ecto... Allows for you to post offline, edit etc etc to your blog. Maybe I'll post more! HAh!

The Exorcist is a scary film!

I never did see all of this back in the day. It's on Showcase and it's 12:18 and I am gonna try and stay up and watch it. Cuz after the slow 1st act and the nasty scary medical scene where she gets some sort of brain scans, she suddenly flips out and shit does it scare you! If I don't make it to the end I think I am gonna rent this one.

London Calling [25th Anniversary Legacy Edition] by The Clash (2004)

I haven't bought the 25th Ann version of this album, but I probably will. It will be the 3rd copy of this album (the original vinyl, the1st cd and the recently remastered CD)

This album is my Rosetta stone of music. My love and appreciation of so many genre's, the punk aesthetic applied to all sorts of music came from this one source. Changed my life, made me wanna be Joe Strummer. A classic that stands up even 25 years later.

Bloody Sunday

A telling of the pivotal 24 hours in 1972 that sparked the next few
decades of violence in Northern Ireland. U2's song Sunday Bloody Sunday
is based on this day where 27 people were shot.

Now, if you're not into Irish politics, but are a film buff I still
urge you to see this film. An amazingly well made film, populated with
non-actors and filmed in such a style you'll swear your watching a
documentary of the actual events. It also high lights how these violent
events of past and present are usually very messy chaotic and brief
moments, where some sudden decisions add to others and things just
spiral out of control. For that alone you should see this movie.

Medulla by Bjork

well I finally "get it". It took me weeks to get to the point where I wouldn't race to the eject button after the first couple songs. But I have this kind of reaction to most of Bjork's work at first. She is challenging us and I'd be surprised if I didn't balk at first.

The key is pick one song at a time and really listen to it. The first few efforts I had it on in the background and it all blended together. Using voices give all the songs a same tonality. But once you crack into it, you can see her brilliance. She will abandon and alienate the poppy fans from Debut but she gains more credibility from the avant garde with this release.

By the way, several songs feature Inuit throat singing, which is sort of a Canadian sound. I can remember that old old short animated NFB flick where the flock of geese come toward us, Inuit throat singers providing there sound. The sound fascinated me as a child and it still does today.

Plane crash re-edit, remix

A competition that requires setting some nasa crash footage to music. The winner is amazing!

Mercedes the dog

It's been a few weeks now. Only now I can do this. It's been really hard, she had a huge impact on our lives. A larger one on Lynda's of course cuz she's had her since a puppy. But dogs have a way of getting under yer skin and into your heart. This one managed to really get me. She was just a great great dog full of personality. I could write for ages on how many funny little things about her there were. I've had dogs growing up and have been with a lot of dogs but this one was special. I'll mention only two:

-She had the ability to smile at you. Dalmatians do this commonly as a breed. She curled her lips up and smiled at you when she was really happy to see you! It was amazing!

-She liked the lilac bush on the front of our yard, she was walk around it and slowly get into it and sorta hid in it. She liked it when we found her in there and asked what she was doing. She'd just stand there and seem to say " You can't see me! Come and find me!" Apparently she did this with a big potted plant lynda used to have.

I post these snaps up here cuz this is how I will remember her, funny and loving and always hungry!

Jersey Girl

http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/jerseygirl/
We rented this one, cuz at first glance it sounded cute. I didn't read
the box, cute movie with a kid and a dad, great no problem.

Well, in the first third J-Lo dies in child birth and Ben Affleck is
left to raise this baby girl! I mean I guess I should read the box!

Meanwhile he has it all in the big city, fast paced job, success etc.
Well he has to give all up to raise this kid. The rest of the film is
him coming to terms with that over the years.

Maybe it's cuz fatherhood is looming on the horizon and maybe my
emotions have been running high these past few weeks with all the
thoughts of birth (and deaths), but damn this movie, it got under my
skin and I was blubbering at the end of all! The plot turns are pretty
obvious and you can see them coming, the difference is in Kevin Smith's
writing and Ben Affleck's ability to make it all believable. Also
George Carlin does a wonderful job as his widowed dad dealing with
everything.

I recommend it to all expectant fathers. The rest of you will probably
roll your eyes, or not, who knows.
