Where the good are. The real secret

"Use-a-what now?

Put simply, Usenet is the Internet's oldest message board. Containing tens of thousands of groups catering to every imaginable topic, everybody sees what everybody else posts. The Usenet network is unique: when a user posts a message on a Usenet server, that message is transferred from news server to news server, all around the world, until every Usenet server (hopefully) contains a copy of that message.

Thus, every Usenet server, while being independent, is theoretically a mirror of all the others!

Why should I check it out?

Originally, Usenet was the only way to group-communicate globally -- Usenet archives date back to 1981 (!). Even today, Usenet is still the place for awesome global conversation -- everything from good cheesecake recipes to politics to what's the best Mac FTP client. (Which shouldn't be much of a debate. Ahem.)

Lately, Usenet also hosts a large number of 'binary groups'. These groups contain files of every type -- movies, music, photos, etc. Unison will automatically piece these files together and make them easy to get!

Of course, like the Internet itself, Usenet is a vast, unmonitored wilderness -- nobody can control the content posted to the servers, so caution is advised as you navigate. But, with a little curiosity and investigation, you may find Usenet to be a surprisingly rich new Internet resource -- one that's actually been there all along!"

Nikon D2X FRENZY!!

I don't know if you've been following the anticipated arrival of the
Nikon D2x. This was the $6000 camera I and just about any other nikon
shooter is hot for. I fondled one for an hour at Macworld, just cuz I
could... I try not to be too much a gearhead but damn this was the
camera we Nikon Pros were waiting for... soild build, 12MP, all the
bells and whistles.

Nikon does their marketing differently than Canon, the sheer lack of
any images or reviews drove everyone over the edge with speculation. I
mean the myths rumors and such, it had more buzz than anything Apple
has had. Forums of all kinds were rampant over the last few months. The
NDA's came off today, the same day the product shipped worldwide. For
better or for worse it worked, it got everyone breathing heavy with
anticipation,
Needless to say checking DPreview every chance I get today has been
interesting.

You can read a really good review here:

This guy's server got so pummeled and he got so many emails, including
HATE mail that he had to shut down his email.

you can read the reaction to him recieving hate mail here:

Doug Little, Myself and Fred Greenslade all pre-ordered one of these
$6000 babies.
Fred from Don's here in town
Doug from Vistek in Toronto
And I ordered from Henry's

We had bets on who would get theirs first,... Fred won today and picked
his up at Don's. I haven't heard from Henry's yet.

While we wait for the next Coldplay album

I saw keane last week on Saturday Night Live. A trio, drums, piano and
vocals, oh and some catchy songs that can't help but remind you of
Coldplay.

Snagged it off the newsgroups.

Scott Walker

every once in awhile I get back into Scott Walker. Could be the grey slushy days of late winter that bring it out. I loaded ALL 4 of the solo album plus the 5 easy pieces box set onto my iPod. My iPod can bring you up and down in one playlist!

Amon Tobin: Chaos Theory: Splinter Cell 3 [Soundtrack] (2005): Reviews

Some sort of wacky convergence is happening. One of my face electronic acts is doing the soundtrack for my fave video game, Splinter Cell. This is the album release of the soundtrack.

So when all these things I like converge does that mean I have a right to high and mighty and feel vastly superior to everyone else?!

Aishwarya Rai

"Who is the most beautiful woman in the world? Half a century ago, Hollywood would have presented her to us. Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman or perhaps Elizabeth Taylor. But today? Correspondent Bob Simon reports the woman who currently holds the title, at least according to thousands of Web sites, Internet polls and even Julia Roberts, is someone you've probably never heard of.

Her name is Aishwarya Rai, and she is an actress living and working in Bombay, India. The reigning queen of Indian cinema (and also a classically trained dancer) Rai has starred in 24 films over the last seven years. "
