Top ten terrible tech products - Crave at CNET.co.uk

Windows Vista
Any operating system that provokes a campaign for its predecessor's reintroduction deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that quietly has a downgrade-to- previous-edition option introduced for PC makers deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that takes six years of development but is instantly hated by hordes of PC professionals and enthusiasts deserves to be classed as terrible technology.

Windows Vista conforms to all of the above. Its incompatibility with hardware, its obsessive requirement of human interaction to clear security dialogue box warnings and its abusive use of hated DRM, not to mention its general pointlessness as an upgrade, are just some examples of why this expensive operating system earns the final place i

Apple Puck Mouse
Apple shipped the hockey puck-shaped mouse with the iMac G3 in 1998. What in Jobs' name was this supposed to bring the user? This obscenely unusable excuse for a human interface device was one of Apple's most abject creations. It had a single button that was difficult to find without looking and made the experience of 'mousing' totally rubbish -- you didn't know which way it was pointing.

In all fairness, it did have one redeeming innovation -- the puck was the first mouse to use the USB standard as its method of connectivity.

The puck mouse was discontinued around 2000. Good riddance 'n' that.

Trash the dress wedding photos - Styledash

For the record I am NOT a wedding shooter! But this idea is a tad appealing to me, cool shots where we don't have to worry about the train getting dirty? Sounds like fun!

Trash the dress wedding photos

Amid the posy photos and puffed-up bios that comprise the wedding announcement section of Sunday Times Style Section, there was a fascinating article on the rising trend of so-called Trash the Dress wedding photography.Trash the Dress, you say? It's exactly what it sounds like -- following the blessed event, the bride straps on that gorgeous dress once again for a final farewell photo to the gown she spent a fortune to wear for one day only. Only instead of posing in some predictably idyllic setting, the picture is shot in a scroungy back alley or a mossy lake. These so-called Trash the Dress photos have become all the rage with brides who want to add something unconventional to their wedding albums. And unconventional they are -- particularly the photo at right in which a bride has set her wedding gown aflame, a la Joan of Arc. This shot was taken by a photographer named John Michael Cooper, who coined the phrase Trash the Dress. If you want to see more of his edgy, arty wedding photography, check out his website, which chronicles his collection of Trash the Dress wedding photos.

One laptop per child- Give one, get one

Seems I have been following this project forever. Nicholas Negroponte first wrote about this idea in the pages of Wired way back somewhere in the 90's during the Dot Com Boom, when we still believed the Net could change the world for the better. Some days I still believe that. Even though there competing projects emerging on the market as we speak, my hope is this project is successful in it's mission. There is only one way to help ensure that, so I decided to give one and will get one.

The mission of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is to empower the children of developing countries to learn by providing one connected laptop to every school-age child. In order to accomplish our goal, we need people who believe in what we’re doing and want to help make education for the world’s children a priority, not a privilege. Between November 12 and November 26, OLPC is offering a Give One Get One program in the United States and Canada. During this time, you can donate the revolutionary XO laptop to a child in a developing nation, and also receive one for the child in your life in recognition of your contribution.

flock1.jpgA collection of sidebars lets you log in to various popular services like Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, del.icio.us, Ma.gnolia and more (some notable exceptions include MySpace, Plaxo and Jaiku), track and view friends, post things and view your friend’s shared media. The result is that a fair portion of the social web is integrated directly into your browser.
