United 93Reviews

The reviews are coming in as expected. I knew after watching Bloody Sunday that Greengrass was the guy to make this film. It sounds masterfully constructed and a film worthy of the subject matter.

United 93 (2006): Reviews: "I am here to tell you that Greengrass has fashioned one of the most powerful films I have ever seen, and that watching it makes you value your loved ones and your privileges more, perhaps, than you ever have. He has made a film that makes you feel, makes you think and makes you want to connect. And that, finally, might be the greatest thing that art can do. "

Yesterday/yesteryear in Baker Lake

Took these yesterday but they could have been from any year. It was -18C and windy. Baker Lake is the geographical centre of Canada in Nunavut. That's a polite way of saying it's the cold cold middle of nowhere. Fun times though. More snpas to come once I've unpacked.

the Mac Lab at Microsoft

This one's for the geeks and it's worth the trip. Behind the scenes view of the mac Lab at Microsoft. Remember that Microsoft employee who got in trouble photographing the arrival of stacks of G4's to MScampus? This is probably where they went. Impressive set up!

Spring in stores now!

Snakes on a Plane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Can you hear Sam Jackson yelling that at the producers? I can.

Snakes on a Plane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "At one point, the film's working title was altered to Pacific Air Flight 121. In August 2005, a perturbed Samuel L. Jackson told an interviewer, 'We're totally changing that back. That's the only reason I took the job: I read the title.'[2] In another interview in early 2006, Jackson claimed that once he learned about the movie title being changed he said: 'What are you doing here? It's not Gone with the Wind. It's not On the Waterfront. It's Snakes on a Plane!'[3] The film was soon reverted to the working title of Snakes on a Plane. On 2006-03-02, IMDb reported that the film had been renamed S.O.A.P. (standing for Snakes On A Plane).[4] However, a week later, IMDb reported that the name had again been changed back to 'Snakes on a Plane,' for reasons unstated."

More pre-release hype on Drift!

People are terrified and excited at the same time. Read this link and tell me you're NOT curious!

Click opera - Horrorpop!: "But the thing is, this isn't a pop record, it's a nightmare. It's a horror film, part Cocteau, part Jodorowsky. It's a donkey being slaughtered, it's a sudden screaming orchestra, it's Elmer Fudd jumping out from behind a pillar and turning into a cloud of bees and stinging your face with a million ghoulish obscenities!"

Crime Of The Century (Rm)

I rarely if ever openly gush about a remastering of a CD. I have occasionally seen the remastering process bring out something missed in previous recordings, the recent remastering of the Clash back-catalogue for example. But this, THIS, this is an amazing remastering of an already amazing recording. I first unwrapped and played this one in the E and it blew me away.

This was the album to play on yours or your brother's stereo to show up it's amazing abilities. Now with this re-mastering, it is again! WORTH the $10!!

If you don't know, I can't help you. Read the reviews.

Domino

I don't care what anyone says, this is a great show! Watched the extras this time, and it shed light on the techniques used as well as the back story behind the REAL Domino. Yes it's a true story, sort of.

Years from now they will either praised or condemn this show for it's style.

Rob Galbraith Digital Photography Insights: Board Rules

I go away one weekend and suddenly one of the main photo forums I visit is closed and up for sale? There has been some nasty back n forth with the admin's over jealous censorship, and now it's become clear why. We'll see what happens. Its a shame if this place dies, as I have received a lot of support and advice from people on here.

American Idol does Queen

Sorry I had to watch this tonight, if only to vindicate what I've always known. Queen's catalogue spans several genres and Freddie Mercury was an amazing vocalist. Oh it's started... I will give my verdict after the show.

Loose Change - 2nd Edition

A very well made doc about the conspiracy theory that the US Gov't created the events of 9/11 to further their goals. I am downloading as I type this, only seen the first 4 minutes and I have to say it's riveting! If the connections in Fahrenheit 9/11 freaked you out then you might wet yourself watching this!

Chuck E's in Love

scanning over the line for the Folk Fest this year. I noticed Ricki Lee Jones is coming! I only have a couple albums but I always admired her for her integrity. This should be very cool! I have to say I am impressed with the Folk Fest, last year was a cool lineup and I think this one will be as good.

This one's for Rob! Any OS on a MAC!

This could get more people buying Apple hardware, even more than Apple's Bootcamp, released yesterday. Personally I'd love to get a machine running some different OSes to see what their like.

Parallels announced today that it is beginning beta testing for Parallels Workstation 2.1 for Mac OS X, the first virtualization software that gives Apple users the ability to simultaneously run Windows, Linux or any other operating system and their applications alongside Mac OS X on an Intel-powered Apple computer.

Knee in My Package

This is about as catchy as the commercial it's ripping off. You WILL sing this all day.

Too cool for school!

Found myself shooting back to school images at my old highschool Sturgeon Creek. Kinda weird to be in the same halls where I first discovered photography with a pinhole camera!
The current enrolment at the school is only 300, it will go back to the 1200 students I remember when they close Silver Heights next year. The photography program I took is now defunct.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention, I guess I am getting old. I'd mention to someof the models that i went there and they'd say" Oh where are you?" and look at the Grad photos on the wall in the 94-96 area. I'd point down to the other end of the hall and say "it's at that end" "Woah when did you graduate?" "When were you born?" "1987" "Nevermind!"

iPod Vending Machine

Rob you can buy it like chewing gum!

Weird scenes while driving

Someone could do a website where you submit these little things you see while driving. You could make an indie film with some of the stuff I see on the streets. Here are a couple from the last 24hrs:

-yesterday, on Warsaw as I was coming home a bunch of 8-10 yr old standing at the curb waited till I drove past, one held up a sign that said "Honk if you love the Yeti" while another is running around in a full body white fake fur jumpsuit with full white hat. Presumably she was the yeti!

-This am I was driving down Academy and glanced over at a door step in River Heights. A 30 something woman is standing on her doorstep,in her PJ's and bunny slippers, brandishing a hack saw. Her arm is out stretched in front of her, holding a hockey stick. She is eyeing up where to cut, with one eye open.

Anyone else just glance off the road and see weird stuff?

Great day out at the lake today

540c Server

Wild stuff in a low tech way. Makes you wanna dust off some of that old gear, ALMOST

A grand machine currently running system 8.1, booting of a 256mb PCMCIA memory card for slient operation when working as a web server but also boots to system 7.5 when i need to do other stuff. Why the duel boot? well with 12mb of ram Os8 can be a bit demanding, but it has bits i like. If stability becomes an issue due to the ram i may change it about.

The pages are a botch job based on the files that come with personal web sharing in Os8 particularly the personal files for Ellen Kaiser.
I am using MacHTTP 2.6 to serve the pages but to start i was using os8's personal web sharing, so it did kinda look like this for a bit.

Anyway as said 12mb ram, 500mb hard disk and a 33 MHz 68LC040 CPU. It was important that i do this with a 68k Mac, i could have easily bought a Powerbook 1400 or a 5300 to do the work, but the smaller the specs the more fun it is.

So an underpowered Apple laptop from 1994 is my web server. Oh yes, i forgot, it is serving this from a cupboard using WiFi, connecting to my router which is under my bed. Which for that matter is also where the FTP server is should you be inclined to sample its goods.

Flip Flop Flyin' Pictorial Atlas of the World

Flip Flop Flyin's take on an atlas, full of fun little facts and pixelated plesantries.

Flip Flop Flyin' Pictorial Atlas of the World: "
Part of the Soviet Union for a while, then when all that went tits-up, independence came along for this landlocked country and it is now the world's leading exporter of typos."

ARE YOU BEING SINISTER OR IS THIS SOME FORM OF PRACTICAL JOKE?

This is Ian R McCausland. He lives in Calgary. He found me. It's funny, I spent all my life with my name, growing up hardly ever knowing another Ian. Now I find there are several.
