Wens evening Kev and I attended this event, for the second time. You know you're at a video industry event when all the raffle prizes have a few more zeros in the value. The best prize was a week's rental of the soon to be released RED camera. This new video camera would RENT for $1500 a DAY and someone managed to get a week's worth for that price. That's huge. Kev managed to win a prize, a HD that you can shoot video directly into. Very sweet.
Oh and there were presenters, Assoc editor Sean Cullen who with Walter Murch, is working on Francis Ford Coppolla's next feature. There was also the guy who edited Zodiac, upcoming movie from the guy who did Seven. Its a true story set in San Fran and we walked out of the venue turned the corner and were standing on the corner we JUST SAW in the trailer, how cool is that! The Apple Final Cut dev team were set up and you could go talk to them directly and try and get your most wanted features implemented.

Inside the DVXuser.com Phenomenon

When Panasonic released the DVX100 camera in November of 2002, they had no idea of the passion and fanaticism that would soon grow around their product.

The first 24p DV camera available to prosumers quickly became the talk of the online world by providing its owners with a visible means of producing footage at least visually equal to high-end film originated material. Frustrated by simply being a bystander in the existing online communities discussing his new favorite camera, Vancouver-based independent filmmaker Jarred Land decided he could do them one better. So in July of 2003, Jarred registered the domain DVXuser.com and opened an online discussion forum focused on DVX100 owners.

DVXuser"Our first couple of days were pretty quiet, just me saying 'welcome' and a few people stopping by to lurk or say hi," Land recalls. But the calm didn't last long. Word traveled fast among other online communities that a new home had sprung up. Within a year, DVXuser.com had over 3,000 registered users and many of them were talking about subjects other than the DVX100."

Jean-Michel Jarre Zoolook

here's a blast from the past. Amazing back in 1984. You've heard some of his other work from the late 70's, you just don't know it. I think Gillam sound used one of his songs for years in a TV comercial. Link goes to a YouTube video of the song

Zoolook is the fifth mainstream album by Jean-Michel Jarre, and released in 1984 on Disques Dreyfus. It makes extensive use of digital recording techniques and sampling. It is considered by many fans to be Jean-Michel Jarre's most experimental album to date. Much of the music is built up from song and speech from over thirty different languages, together with other synthesizers, as well as more traditional instruments. Much of the tone of the album appears to be influenced by elements of musique concrète and by his time as a student of Pierre Schaeffer.
