The Sounds of the "Telstar" Vapor Trail

One of my fave sites, Telstar Logistics explains the origins of the name. Rob and I were talking about back in the day when the launch of a satellite was a BIG deal. Up here in Canada it was Anik 1 in 1972Telstar1

Telstar1 We've written previously about the origin of our corporate namesake. But for those of you who slept through that presentation, here's the executive summary: Telstar I (shown to the left) was America's first telecommunications satellite.

An iconic Space Age marvel, the launch of Telstar in 1962 inspired Joe Meek, a British music producer, to compose a tribute song by the same name. (Listen to it here.) "Telstar" went on to become a number one hit in both the UK and the United States, and today it's remembered as a precursor to both the British Invasion and Beach Boys-style surf rock.
