The Bridge on the Doc Channel this weekend.
San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge is an American icon and a major tourist destination; it is also the site of more suicides than any other place in the world. In his debut documentary, director Eric Steele examines why this particular bridge is such a magnet for suicides.
Shot over an entire year in 2004, The Bridge examines the nature of suicide and why people are drawn to the Golden Gate Bridge to end their lives. Steele’s camera captures 19 people as they take their final plunge, and supplements this with testimonials from grieving families and friends, suicide witnesses and even a jump survivor.
