The Dial-Up BBS Revisited
Article about some dial up BBS's that still remain. For those who take all this internet stuff for granted, this was how it was. I started in 1992 and till about 94-95 this was "being Online".
I love the ghost town metaphor! We should bug Stacy to dig up an backup version of MIT in it's headay in a form we could peruse. Unfortunately I would think that is harder than you'd think with First Class software woefully gone. Hey I have a G3 with system 9 on it!... Oh never mind.
VintageComputing.com | Vintage Computing and Gaming Blog Archive The Dial-Up BBS Revisited: "These few remaining dial-up BBSes understandably receive very few calls these days, so they tend to feel a little eerie and lonely, like digital ghost towns. Some of the message threads out there have been left hanging and incomplete, with the original post echoing like a thin, ghostly voice through time, still pleading for a response. In some cases, it’s as if an entire online community was caught unawares, swallowed up, and perfectly preserved in Pompeii-like ash. Everything’s there, in place…except the people. Perhaps analogies to the Mary Celeste would be more appropriate."

Yup... I have the urge to click on those red flags and see new posts by Rob, Stacy, Grub, Jeremy and the other teenyboppers, the LHF himself, and on, an on... Good Times... Good Times....

Its feels like I'm speaking a foreign language when I tell people about MiT. It always comes up when someone says how did you meet ____?
I babble on like ... "remember before the internet, there were bulletin boards" (blank look) "this one was run by a minister" (blank look) ...
Response "before the internet?" like its been around forever.
Who knows where to download XRumer 5.0 Palladium?
