globeandmail.com : Microsoft Canada lifts lid on Vista prices

You can fill in any type of Mac OS X inspired smug remarks here. I don't even want to mention how pretty much everyone's hardware will hardly run Vista. I think you'll see more people migrating to Linux over this, oddly enuff.
The main reason for all the fuss on-line is that the prices will be steep: the top-of-the-line version, called Windows Vista Ultimate, will be priced at $499 (all prices are Canadian). Home Premium is listed at $299, Vista Ultimate Upgrade at $299 , while Home Premium Upgrade is $199.

Their OS prices have always been high. Current versions of XP Home and Pro are $120 and $190 on cbit.ca.

The jury is still out if current owners will want to upgrade. New comptuer buyers will just get it bundled with their new PCs. So its still going to do well. What that price point will be for this bundle is still a guess but it wouldn't surprise me to see bundles for $1099 that comes with a computer, monitor, and a version of the OS.

If I had to reuse an old computer, I would look at linux. http://www.ubuntu.com/ lets you download a bootable CD-ROM so you can take a look. What a great idea. Its still linux so there are some tweaks here and there.
