Globe and mail article outrage

I see by the front page of today's Free Press, I wasn't the only one who was upset by that article about Winnipeg in the Globe and Mail.

I thought the Globe article as written was okay. Criticism was fair. It was the photographs that have created the distortion. As written, it tried to balance the good with the bad. The photographs for the most part just revealed the negative side.

The Free Press response is an over reaction. I like the idea of publishing photographs, but the ones they used emphasized buildings rather than people.

I didn't think the article was written very well. It felt like they just doled out the stereotypes as a snapshot of our city. The downtown street teeming with skeeters?

The more I think about it, the more ok I am with TO thinking this way, if it keeps them away

I'm still baffled that they assigned an out of towner to do this piece. They have a local person plus a bunch of stringers like me. Perhaps they will think twice next time but probably not.
