Best Buy Canada may carry the iPhone

Best Buy Canada may carry the iPhone

The question of whether Rogers Wireless would be the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in Canada has been answered, then unanswered, then answered again, then... who knows what. But we haven't had any Canada-related iPhone news in a while. This little tidbit isn't exactly carrier-related, though—it's more about where you might be able to buy an iPhone if you live in the great white north.

Best Buy Canada has done a great job of generating some buzz for itself on this slow Monday by posting a page on its site solely dedicated to the iPhone. Best Buy writes:

It's beautiful, it's powerful and it's been all over the news; the question on the minds of Canadians from coast to coast is 'when can we get our hands on the iPhone?'

The iPhone is an [sic] revoluationary [sic] new device from Apple, combining an iPod, a cell phone and a portable internet device into one very attractive package. Currently the iPhone is only available to American customers via AT&T.

Wow, they're kinda' unlucky that the copy is embedded in a giant image, too. Moving along...

On the page, you can sign up to be updated on "all Canadian iPhone Elements," whatever that means. Does this mean that Best Buy plans to carry the iPhone in Canada? Possibly—why else would they be so confident as to put a page up on their site? Or maybe they're just that—over confident.

We're not totally sure what's going on with this one, but we do know that Canadian customers are dying to get their hands on the iPhone. I know of at least one Canadian who snuck down to the states on launch weekend just to pick an iPhone up and bring it back home for use as an iPod and WiFi device after activating it on a GoPhone plan (being a Canadian, he has no social security number). Are there any more of you out there who did the same?
